The Final Countdown: How to survive this awful budget
The South African economy has been through a time. Since 2009 (the “Z-years”), South Africa’s economy has been slipping into oblivion — driven by weak and unsure political leadership. We have all felt the impact of a deteriorating economy, heard about being junk status, and seen the dismal forecasts. Economic growth is structurally hamstrung, unemployment is at an all-time high, confidence is at a historic low, and government finances are on the verge of collapse. Whoever will be responsible for the next budget, will face a considerable challenge in addressing the finances of the fiscus. Unfortunately, this task will include significant increases in existing taxes and the introduction of new taxes. Nevertheless, the worst seems to be behind us. The new number one might not make all the difference, but the momentum of good sentiment might just spark a turn towards a better tomorrow.
The business organisation AfriBusiness in collaboration with the Efficient Group will on 21 February 2018 host a budget discussion. Come and listen to Dawie Roodt, Trudie Rohlandt and Piet le Roux for an in-depth analysis of this year’s budget, our economic prospects, and how you can manage your personal finances to make the adjustment as painless as possible.
